      Dr Malcolm Gower 
      MBE FIEE, FInstP
      Malcolm Gower has held research and  teaching positions at NASA-Ames Research Center, California; the University of  California, Berkeley, the Universities of Oxford and Reading and the Rutherford  Appleton Laboratory. He has conducted both experimental and theoretical  research in a wide range of areas in the scientific and industrial applications  of photons, lasers and optics. He has published over 150 papers and articles  and given numerous talks at scientific meetings and workshops on these  subjects. In 1984 he co-founded Exitech Ltd a world-leading manufacturer of  photon-based micro and nano-fabrication tools and has recently founded  Nanophoton Technologies a company specializing in applying photonics to nanotechnology.  He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), the Institute of Physics (IoP), a member of the Optical  Society of America (OSA), SPIE and is a past-President of the Association of  Industrial Laser Users (AILU). He advises  various European Union and UK Government committees on  R&D policies in areas of laser applications, photonics, MEMS,  nanotechnology and microelectronics. In recognition of his services to industrial laser development,  he was awarded an MBE (member of the Order of the British   Empire) by Queen Elizabeth II.
