      Dr. IMANAKA was born in Osaka City, Japan in 1950. 
        He received the B.E. degree in Material Science from Osaka  University
        in 1974, and the M.E and the Ph.D. degrees in Solid State  Physics from
        Osaka City University, Japan in 1976 and 1979, respectively.
      Between 1980 and 1982, he was a Visiting Researcher at the  Institute of 
        Physics of NeuchatelUniversity, Switzerland. 
      Since 1982, he had been with Oki Electric Industry, Co.  Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, 
        where he worked on Semiconductor Laser research for  long-haul 
        transmission. 
      In 1985, he joined OMRON Corporation, Kyoto, Japan, and was  engaged in 
        the research of compound semiconductor quantum well lasers,  micro 
        integrated photonic devices, MEMS, and Nanodevices. 
      From June  2005, he is a Managing Officer and GM of Corporate R&DH.Q. 
        of OMRON Corporation.
      Dr.  Imanakais an officer of MicromachineCenter,   Japan and has  been a 
        Guest Professor of RitsumeikanUniversity, Japan since 2004.
   
        He is a member of IEEE, SPIE, SID, IEEJ and JSAP.
