Biochemical energy
0901102-18
[DEFINITION]
Energy that is stored in in vivo substances and released through
chemical reactions.
[DESCRIPTION]
Living organisms use chemical energy for mechanical work and
transportation and synthesis of substances. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) plays a core role in
chemical energy exchanges. An ATP molecule stocks energy for a short period. For longer storage,
carbon hydrate, protein, and fat are used. Performance of the micromachines can be improved
drastically if these chemical energy sources can be utilized as energy source for micromachines used
in vivo.
