[DEFINITION]
A technology that guides a mobile object along a specific path by
detecting position with ultrasonic waves.
[DESCRIPTION]
Major ultrasonic navigation system configurations are as follows:
1) the ultrasonic transmitter is mounted on the robot and the ultrasonic receiver is installed in
the external environment, 2) the ultrasonic transmitter is installed in the external environment and
the ultrasonic receiver is mounted on the robot, and 3) the ultrasonic sensor which itself emits
ultrasonic waves and detects the echo is installed either on the robot or in the external
environment. Triangulation makes it possible to determine the position of a robot and guide it
along a specified path.
